FED:New health workers for WA

A quit smoking and healthy living message will be boosted in Aboriginal communities
across Western Australia by more than 60 extra health workers .. being provided by the
federal government.

Federal Indigenous Health Minister WARREN SNOWDON's announced the extra workers at
the Aboriginal Health Council of WA conference in Perth today.

He says the government's providing eight million dollars for the extra staff with the
aim of helping to close the gap in life expectancy between indigenous and non-indigenous
Australians.

They include tobacco action and health lifestyle workers in Aboriginal communities
across WA .. with 20 per cent of indigenous deaths in Australia attributed to smoking.
