WA:Guilty plea expected over pollution

Aluminium giant Alcoa is expected to plead guilty to an alternative charge relating
to pollution from its West Australian refinery .. that residents say caused illnesses.

Alcoa was charged with causing pollution with criminal negligence at its Wagerup refinery
.. about 130 kilometres south of Perth.

But outside the court .. a deal was made for the company to plead guilty to an alternative
charge.

The matter has been adjourned until August 24.

It's the second time Alcoa has been accused of allowing toxic dust from its refinery
to pollute the Yarloop area .. an offence which carries a maximum million dollar fine.
