SENIOR FRENCH CLASS STUDIES CATHEDRALS.(CAPITAL REGION)

Mechanicville The Mechanicville High School Department of French Studies recently concluded its senior project on the French Gothic cathedrals. Led by instructor Maryann Adamson, the students researched and visited several cathedrals in Albany that are in the classic high Gothic style. An emphasis was placed on the Gothic cathedrals being works of art that attempted to create the optimal vertical impression and an aura of mysteriousness through large stained- glass windows. Among the cathedrals studied in depth were the famed Notre Dame in Paris and the cathedral at Chartres noted for its blue stained-glass windows.
